Tuesday was the time for county supervisors to honor retirees and their service to Greene County. Four retirees were honored during the supervisors’ meeting.
Outgoing supervisor Guy Richardson was honored for 16 years as a county supervisor. Board chair John Muir thanked him for the instruction he offered. “He’s been here since I’ve been here and one way or another, he trained me,” Muir said.
“He trained all of us,” supervisor Mick Burkett added.
“You’ll be just fine…. Life goes on. I’m not sure I relish some of the things you’re going to have to deal with in the next year or two, but you’ll figure it out,” Richardson said.
Steve Haupert is finishing 20 years in county law enforcement, the last four as sheriff. He thanked the supervisors for funding technology for the sheriff’s office, naming in-car computers as an example. “I know that was a lot of expenditures and I appreciate that,” Haupert said. “It’s officer safety and I appreciate everything you did… I appreciate the times you were struggling with the budget and you still found money.”
The public is invited to an open house for Richardson and Haupert Thursday, Dec. 29, from 1 to 3 pm in the second floor board room at the courthouse.
Later in the morning more than a dozen secondary roads department employees and the families of Randy Fox and Terry “2B” Tasler arrived to honor them on their retirement.
Fox is retiring after 43 years with the secondary roads department, leaving as shop superintendent in the Jefferson shop. Tasler worked out of the Churdan shop for 42 years and drove hundreds of thousands of miles on a county maintainer.
County engineer Wade Weiss thanked both men, saying their long service is “humbling.” “We’re losing two outstanding employees. There are very few times I’ve ever had any complaints. I’d like to thank 2B and Randy. I’ve had many years of easy going because of these two guys,” Weiss said.
